Letter of Intent Masters of Science in Business Analytics, Oulu University Finland
LOI
I hereby wish to describe my keen interest in a
place in the Master of Science (Technology) in Business Analytics at University of
Oulu.
“Data is
the new oil” an analogy coined by British mathematician Clive Humby. Taking a
cue from this, I decided to put my job on hold and make the much-needed shift
to learning and gaining more knowledge in field of Data Engineering. The main
reason I have chosen this Master's Program, is to develop my career and
pursue post graduate education with an international university, which is AACSB-accredited
and renowned for its research excellence, where one can develop practical
skills with real-life examples through collaboration of industry and hands-on-training
on the most advanced tools in multidisciplinary environment and cutting edge
curriculum and research opportunities.
As a professional with working experience of
approximately 10 years in variety of industries, now it’s time for me to get a
professional degree and learn skills that are very much in demand as in the era
of this 4th industrial revolution, data is everywhere but just like
oil it’s not useful in its raw state. I find that data's role is essential in
optimizing operations, forecasting trends, and driving strategic decisions and
I believe that lack of human resource with right skillsets is hindering in
development of both country & organizations.
With a background in engineering, I studied
different branches of mathematics (Statistics and numerical methods), Physics
and programming as my graduate subjects, and have worked as Sales Engineer and
Project coordinator. It further gets me excited to learn how businesses could
make higher profits if they knew the more advance skills to analyze their
existing methods and processes and could learn precisely how to improvise those
to generate more ROI. When I thought of delving into the data field, I enrolled myself in an online bootcamp on Udemy
about data science where I brush up my
skills in Python and learn data libraries of Python like Panda, seaborn etc. Some
amateur work of mine can be seen on https://github.com/Zahra-Sultan.
I also took online training of few hours in data visualization through PowerBI.
All this leads to self-realization that Data Science is a
very vast field and to excel in the field, instead of any bootcamp, a two years
Master program with contact learning in a educational environment will provide
the real knowledge. This program's courses of data mining, data processing and
multi modal data fusion has particularly drawn me. Since, after the COVID
Pandemic, the world has changed its direction for professional and personal
approach, be it a huge spike in online shopping or soar availability of remote
jobs. So the number of professional business analysts, data engineers and
Information analysts are not enough and will always be in demand.
Recognizing the transformative potential of data
in today's business landscape, I envision myself contributing to industries by
optimizing processes, enhancing decision-making, and driving sustainable growth
through data-driven strategies. For this, during my Master’s thesis, I would
like to explore how predictive analytics can improve cost estimation, resource
allocation, and risk management in construction projects, by utilizing
historical project data to develop models that optimize project timelines and
budgets.
I’m sure, if given, the opportunity to study at
such an academically vibrant university, would further enhance my skills to
make a meaningful impact in the field of Business Analytics. Thank you very
much for considering my request and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours
sincerely,
X,Y,Z
